A womens role, a response to Sons for the return home.
Women in society are know as the carer, a mother, a person who can do no harm which of course is not true. Women just like men can commit murder in cold blood. I'm not saying that the girl in the story commit murder but the person that lead to her making the decision the abort her child is the mother of the boyfriend. A christian who told the girl to abort a live that God gave. To me she commit the ultimate sin against God. Even in the Bible it said that Jesus love the little children and told his disciple to let the children come to him and that we adult should be like children in order to get to heaven. I don't know why she persuade the girl to abort her grandchild but what even her reason is I can never accept it. As it can be seen later on in the story the girl regret her decision and refuse to come back to New Zealand, leading to lost love. Me being a huge romantic person who love to read roman book this to me is such a sad story. I love the story with it depth of culture, it stories of their ancestor, its love, it religion, and it breaking away, I love it all. At the end the guy break away from the control of his mother and hit her. Even though it was wrong to hit a elder or your mother I was so happy. I wish I was in the story so that I can see it in real life.

ReplyDeleteYes! I totally agree with your idea of the murder. It may be the mother who kills the unborn baby, this is a kind of sin, which is quite against her religion. But, in my opinion, she is forced by hostile social taboo, by the existence of discrimination of the white towards the brown. She could not imagine if other people scorn her beloved son for this anti-social behaviour, she would feel sad for his whole life. she has to obey the customs. Additionally, the girl is also a lady with consideration, she cares about his mother's opinion. But before the abortion, people just care about each other's benefits and ignore the consequence of the abortion itself, for the result of abortion is just like crime. When all parties understand it, that is too late. therefore, they all have the sense of sin in this respect. They will always live in the shade of this deed, until the son realise the thing and slaps the mother, the development of the story reaches its' highest point. The son betrays the mother and returns back to New Zealand, which expresses he couldn't forgiven his mother any more. However, the son seems to understand on the airplane, that every thing seems to happen accordingly, from the beginning of his romance with the girl, they are doom to be separated, they belong to two worlds, and if she married with him, she would be same as him, to flying and no return, she should return back to her own society, which may be the better end for them. He will love her in the heart thought not physically. So, he forgivens every body, and leaves the sadness and sin for himself. He may have found something from this bitter life experiences, but he accepts it without complaining. The sentence of "More immigrants in the airplane" may reveal that people might still be doing the same thing as what they did before. This implies that human beings need to grow up from their mistakes. He has paid for his mistakes, other people are doing the same later. This is life, no one misses.
I believe that the woman may be weak because even thought the mother told her to abort the baby. She could have tried to fight or go against her but she did not. It may be because she is scared her child might end up just like her. Her with a broken family and her being mentally weak. I agree that the mother is also at fault but not she is not only one to blame. The three of them have committed the same fault at the end. Him letting it happen, her for listening to the mother also for being mentally weak and the mother afraid of having a non-samoan grandchild. All of them killed the child.
